Whilst club against club rivalty is always high at NSW Triathlon Club Championships we also know that this race is also all about creating memories with your club mates, family, and friends. Forster in February, with its golden beaches and laid‑back coastal vibe, is the ultimate destination to turn your race weekend into a race‑cation.
We’ve put together a fun series, rolling out over the next months, to highlight the best ways to enjoy the journey and the destination: from scenic drives and hidden lookouts to family‑friendly activities and local eats.
First up, we’re encouraging you to saving the racing for race day, but turn the trip up and back into the vacation in itself.
The Road to Forster – Lakes Way Drive
We know you want a fast race, but getting to the startline doesn’t need to be. Start, or end, your weekend via the scenic route to Forster. Lakes Way is a picturesque coastal drive with ocean views, lush hinterland, and peaceful lakesides, and sets the perfect tone for a great weekend away!
Where to Stop Along the Way
- Crowdy Bay National Park – Coastal trails, secluded beaches, and elevated lookouts. A short hike to Shelly Beach lookout delivers unforgettable scenery and isn’t too hard on the legs. Or save it for the return trip!
- Old Bar Beach – A classic Mid North Coast surf spot. Stop for a coffee at a local café or enjoy a casual picnic on the sand.
- Tuncurry Lakeside – Just before Forster, stroll Wallis Lake’s promenade or grab a bite at a lakeside café.
If you’re taking your time on the way up, the trip via Lakes Way means you’ll arrived relaxed, recharged and ready to race. If you’re planning to take in the route on your return trip, it will be a great way to unwind and finish a fun weekend!
