The community turned out in force on Saturday for the 12th annual Kakadu Triathlon, a much-loved event hosted by West Arnhem Council, proudly support by AusTriathlon. The event saw record numbers this year and raised an outstanding $16,400 for CareFlight NT.
Set against the iconic backdrop of Kakadu National Park, the event featured a 250m swim, 7.5km bike ride, and 2.5km run. The triathlon welcomed a sell-out field of competitors, including 150 adults with a perfect 50/50 male and female split and 40 junior participants. Additionally, there was a strong turnout for the 5km Kakadu Run/Walk Challenge.
A true celebration of community spirit in the remote Top End, the event saw the entire town of Jabiru get involved, whether racing, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines. Travellers exploring the NT, as well as residents from Darwin and Katherine, made the 300km journey to take part and soak in the incredible atmosphere.
Adding to the inclusive atmosphere, Blue Cycles generously donated five bikes to local kids from the Gunbalanya community, giving them the opportunity to take part in the event and enjoy the experience alongside athletes of all ages.
With funds raised going directly to CareFlight NT, the event continues to make a meaningful impact, supporting emergency aeromedical services for remote and regional communities across the Northern Territory.
AusTriathlon was proud to support this iconic regional event, recognising the important role it plays in delivering accessible sport, fostering connection, and promoting healthy lifestyles in remote Australia.
West Arnhem Council has once again been commended for their commitment to delivering this heartwarming event, now a staple in the NT sporting calendar. The Kakadu Triathlon is more than just a race – it’s a celebration of community, culture, and care.
