Australia’s Age Group Team has added gold to its medal tally on day two of the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pontevedra, with New South Wales’ Maeve Goehner and Western Australia’s Katherine Ryan crowned world champions in the Standard Distance Duathlon.

Goehner successfully defended her world title in the Female 20–24 category, finishing second overall and top of her age group with standout performance that backed up her win from Townsville last year.

“I can’t put into words how proud I am of today’s achievement,” the Pulse Performance Triathlon Club member said post-race.

“It’s my best result at a World Championships – I’m absolutely stoked.

“The highlight was the last two kilometres, with all my family and friends cheering me on. It was an unforgettable moment.”

Stadium Triathlon Club’s Katherine Ryan also stood tall on the top step, capturing gold in the Female 55–59 category.

Adding to the days success, New South Wales’ Witold Krajewski secured a bronze medal in the Male 75–79 category, racing from the Illawarra Triathlon Club.

Goehner and Ryan’s victories mark Australia’s first gold medals in Pontevedra, boosting the nation’s medal tally to four so far, following Krajewski’s bronze and a silver on opening day from Adelle Parkinson-Need in the Sprint Duathlon.

More multisport action continues on Tuesday in Pontevedra, with athletes set to take on the Cross Triathlon.
