AusTriathlon is proud to announce the selection of the Australian Senior Elite and Para Triathlon Teams for the 2025 World Triathlon Championships, to be staged in Wollongong from 15–19 October 2025.
It marks the first time since 2018 that Australia will host the World Championships, giving our nation’s top triathletes and para triathletes the chance to compete for world titles in front of a partisan home crowd.
Leading the Australian charge is Matt Hauser (QLD), the current World No. 1 in the Elite Men WTCS rankings, sitting on the maximum points (3000) and going into the Finals race with his eyes firmly on the World Series Title.
A Paris 2024 and Tokyo Olympian, Hauser has been a standout performer on the world stage, anchoring Australia’s World Championship Mixed Relay Team in Hamburg in August and dominating the podium throughout the World Triathlon Championship Series so far this year.
He will spearhead a strong men’s team that includes Paris Olympian Luke Willian (QLD), currently sitting in 15th on the WTCS Rankings, and stalwarts Brandon Copeland (QLD) and Callum McClusky (ACT).
The women’s line-up comes with experience, with Emma Jeffcoat (NSW), a Tokyo Olympian and Oceania Champion, joined by Commonwealth Games medallist Sophie Linn (SA), both of whom starred in Australia’s world beating mixed relay in Hamburg just over a month ago. They bring proven experience in championship racing and team events, adding depth and confidence to Australia’s campaign on home soil.
On the Para side, Lauren Parker (NSW) headlines the largest Australian Para Triathlon Team ever assembled for a home World Championships. Ranked World No. 1 in the PTWC category, Parker is a Paralympic gold and silver medallist and multiple-time world champion whose resilience and dominance across multiple sports has inspired athletes and fans alike.
She is joined by an impressive squad including 17-year-old Sunshine Coast Grammar student and Paris 2024 Paralympian Grace Brimelow in the PTS4 Category alongside Jack Howell (QLD), currently ranked No. 2 in the world in the PTS5 category, Anu Francis (SA), ranked No. 2 in the world in the PTS2 class and Sally Pilbeam (WA) and Hannah McDougall (VIC), who are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the PTS4 category, respectively.
Vision-impaired athletes Sam Harding (ACT), Maggie Sandles (VIC) and Caroline Baird (QLD) will also line up in Wollongong, guided by experienced guides Aaron Royle, Lauren Sprague and Annabel White, showcasing the strength and breadth of Australia’s para program.
AusTriathlon High Performance Director Shaun Stephens said the team is primed for the occasion.
“To have the World Championships in Australia is incredibly special — it’s not often our athletes get to chase a world title on home soil, and they’re determined to make the most of it,” Stephens said.
“We have assembled one of the strongest teams we’ve taken into a World Championships in recent years. The athletes are well prepared, they’ve shown consistency throughout the season, and they’re motivated by the chance to perform in front of family, friends and the Australian sporting community.”
“Our Para team continues to inspire with world-leading performances, and together with our elite team, they represent the depth and strength of Australian triathlon. We’re excited to see them line up in Wollongong and take on the world.”
AusTriathlon Head of Paralympic Programs, Megan Hall echoed Stephens comments.
“This is the largest para triathlon team we’ve ever assembled for a home World Championships; a testament to the growth of para triathlon in Australia and the strength of our Paralympic pathway.”
“To compete in front of a home crowd with this depth of talent is going to be truly special and wouldn’t be possible without the support of our coaches, support staff, national institute and Australian sport partners and the Australian triathlon community.”
“These athletes are not just racing for medals; they’re inspiring the next generation of Australian para triathletes.”
