The pinnacle of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon season, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship is upon us with all eyes on Marbella, Spain where more than 250 Aussies will line up across the Pro and Age Group races.
It’s the grand finale of the 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series – where the world’s fastest battle for the season’s last world championship titles and over $2.2 million in prize money.
More than 6,300 athletes from 114 different countries, regions, and territories are registered to take part in the Precision Fuel & Hydration IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship event on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 of November with Australia well represented across the pro and Age Group fields with more than 250 athletes competing.
Over 2,600 women will take centre stage on Saturday, while more than 3,600 men will go head-to-head on Sunday. Not only will the IRONMAN 70.3 World Champions and Age-Group champions be crowned, but the event will also serve as the deciding race of the 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series.
Approximately 120 female and male pro athletes will also join the start line for the Precision Fuel & Hydration IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon with Australia’s Ashleigh Gentle coming into the race firing after podium finishes on her last two T100 races in France and Australia. She will be joined on the women’s start line by Ellie Salthouse, Grace Thek, Regan Hollioake and Milan Agnew.
In the men’s Pro race Australia will be represented by Nick Thompson, Jarrod Osborne, Jake Birtwhistle and Max Neumann.
Australia’s Michellie Jones will line up in the Age Group races aiming for the triple after winning the 55-59 age group sprint distance and standard distance races at the World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong in October.
Jones won Australia’s first ever triathlon Olympic medal at the Sydney Games in 2000 and was one of nine athletes to win multiple world crowns in Wollongong.
Australia’s Ryan Briscoe will also feature in the Age Group races. The Sydney native achieved significant success as an IndyCar driver, with eight wins, and in sports car racing, including a victory at the 2020 24 Hours of Daytona and the 2020 Petit Le Mans. He also raced in Formula Renault, Formula 3000, German F3, and Champ Car World Series before transitioning to endurance racing and returning to IndyCar. Briscoe’s career is marked by adaptability, technical skill, and consistent performance across a wide array of racing disciplines. His legacy continues to inspire aspiring drivers around the world. Briscoe is married to ESPN anchor Nicole Briscoe and became a naturalized American citizen in 2018. Throughout his career, Briscoe has always enjoyed endurance of sport, regularly competing in running events and triathlons. In 2025, Briscoe finally realized a dream, running the Boston Marathon and qualifying to race the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Marbella.
