Insurance for Members

We encourage members to always consider safety first and to always obey the law. But unfortunately accidents do happen and AusTriathlon has arranged a comprehensive insurance program designed to give members peace of mind knowing they have cover for both their triathlon training and racing in AusTri sanctioned events.

We know insurance is complex and can be confusing, so we have tried to provide an overview for members to help.

Training includes participating in triathlon related training of running, swimming, and cycling. Any training outside of the 3 disciplines is not covered. Please note that the use of a bicycle for commuting is not considered training nor is participating in events that are not sanctioned by Aus Triathlon.

We have outlined what each insurance type means* in day to day terms, the key benefits of the cover supplied in each type of insurance and the inclusion level dependent on your membership choice.

There will of course be times where you need to check the more detailed cover so you can head over to our Insurance Hub designed by our Insurance Broker V-Insurance.

Insurance Hub

AusTriathlon’s Insurance Broker, have designed an online Insurance Hub to provide more detailed information regarding your insurance cover.

Their role is to help you with your insurance program so please do not hesitate to contact them if they can assist in any way.

Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Cover Explained
Public Liability Cover

Public Liability insurance is cover that protects a member if they cause an accident injuring or damaging someone else or someone else’s property.

This only applies if the member is legally responsible for the accident. Compensation is paid from the insurers to the person pursuing the claim with the injury/damage so the member does not have to pay. The member will only pay an excess if a claim for damage to property is successfully made against you.

Examples of scenarios where public liability applies.

Professional Indemnity Cover (Coaches only)

Professional Indemnity insurance is defensive cover that protects coaches who provide advice or a service to their customers (in this instance, individuals training towards a triathlon goal). It protects coaches against legal costs and claims for damages to third parties which may arise out of an act, omission or breach of their professional duty in the course of their coaching. This only applies if the coach is legally responsible for the accident directly or indirectly through their coaching instruction. Compensation is paid from the insurers to the person pursuing the claim with the injury/damage so the coach does not have to pay. The coach will only pay the excess of $1,000 if a claim for damage to property is successfully made against them.
