AusTriathlon is thrilled to announce the Age Group Team selected to represent Australia at the upcoming World Triathlon Multisport World Championships in Townsville.

With a selection of over 1000 athletes, this marks the largest Australian Age Group Team ever assembled, highlighting the nation’s eagerness for a World Championship held in its own backyard.

Among the athletes joining the ranks are current Australians of the Year, Richard Scolyer and Georgina Long.

The duo will once again grace the team, marking their third appearance together after competing side by side at the 2023 World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Ibiza and the 2019 World Triathlon Championships in Lausanne.

Two members of the team will look to secure back-to-back Multisport World Championship titles in Townsville, after securing silverware in Ibiza, Spain last year.

Leading the charge is Penelope Nevill, the reigning Sprint Duathlon World Champion in the female 35-39 category. While Ana Oertel transitions up an age-group after clinching the Aquabike World Championship in the female 55-59 category in 2023.

Seven team members are poised to pursue the prestigious title of World Triathlon Multisport Legend in Townsville – an honour earned by any athlete that races and completes five or more races at the Multisport World Championships.

Geoff Breese, Sam Cooke, Darren Cronshaw, Kevin Fergusson, Phillip Hermitage, James Leonard, and Don McArthur each striving to claim the esteemed title.

The 2024 World Triathlon Multisport World Championships Townsville is set to be the largest event ever held in the region, with thousands of athletes and supporters from around the world to attend.

The 12-day event is set to be held from 14-25 August and will include 19 World Championship races across five different levels of athletes, including age group, para triathletes, junior, under 23 and elites.

The Multisport World Championships will see Sprint and Standard Duathlon, Cross Triathlon and Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Long Distance Triathlon, and Aquabike, World Championship races organised together, with all events to be held in close proximity to the centre of Townsville.
