The 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Wollongong marked an unforgettable week for Australian triathlon, with the nation’s Age Group Team delivering a dominant display across all distances and disciplines. Australia fielded over 1,200 athletes, registered across more than 1,600 event entries across the event.
In front of a huge and very passionate home crowd, the team produced a haul of medals that showcased the depth, dedication, and spirit of the Australian triathlon community. From first timers representing Team Australia with pride to seasoned veterans adding to their world title tallies.
In total, Australia celebrated an incredible:
- 48 Individual World Champions
- 4 Relay Team World Champions (16 athletes represented)
- Alongside 48 Silver Medals and 41 Bronze Medals
- 45 Individual Silver / 3 Mixed Team Relays (12 athletes represented)
- 36 Individual Bronze / 4 Mixed Team Relays (16 athletes represented)
- Total Medal Tally = 141
Multiple World Champions
Nine standout athletes achieved the extraordinary feat of winning multiple world titles in Wollongong headlined by Triple World Champion, David McEwan.
- David McEwan (70–74 Open, NSW) – Triple World Champion, claiming titles in Sprint, Standard, and Mixed Relay events for Hills Triathlon Club.
- Lara Dawson (20–24 Female, ACT) – Double World Champion in Standard and Sprint Distance Triathlon, representing JT Multisport Tri-Club.
- Trent Dawson (40–44 Open, VIC) – World Champion in Standard Distance Aquabike and Mixed Team Relay, proudly representing Yarra Tri Club.
- Michellie Jones (55–59 Female) – The Australian legend turned Age Grouper captured both Sprint and Standard Distance World Championships, continuing her storied career on the global stage.
- Linda Meredith (70–74 Female, QLD) – Dual World Champion in Sprint and Mixed Team Relay, representing Redlands Bay Cycling and Multisport Club.
- Mandy Meredith (70–74 Female, NSW) – Standard Distance Aquabike and Mixed Team Relay World Champion, representing Jervis Bay Triathlon Club.
- Stephen Parnell (80–84 Open, VIC) – Dominated his category with double victories in Standard and Sprint Distance Triathlon, racing for Redcliffe Triathlon Club.
- David Peedom (50–54 Open, ACT) – Claimed gold in both Sprint Distance and Mixed Team Relay events, representing T3C.
- Travis Shields (45–49 Open, NSW) – Secured World Titles in both Standard and Sprint Distance Triathlon for Balance Tri Club.
From the Youngest to the Oldest Champion
The 2025 Championships also reflected the full breadth of Australian triathlon, from our youngest World Champion Sienna Carter from the Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy at just 16 years 11 months old, showcasing the bright future of the sport. To the oldest World Champion, Ken Murley who at 80 years and 9 months young, proved that passion and perseverance know no limits.
A Celebration of Australian Triathlon
The Wollongong Finals were more than a race, they were a celebration of community, and pride in our country, along with the incredible volunteer and club networks that make Australian triathlon thrive. The collective achievements of our Age Group athletes embody the true spirit of the sport: unity, determination, and pride in wearing the green and gold.
