AusTriathlon is thrilled to confirm that triathlon will feature at the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games, set to be held in Malta across the islands of Malta and Gozo.

The announcement by Commonwealth Sport today marks a significant milestone in the sport’s pathway, with triathlon one of eight sports on the program – a selection that reflects the strength and growth of the sport across the Commonwealth and in Australia.

Tim Harradine, CEO of AusTriathlon, welcomed the news and praised the value of the Commonwealth Youth Games for the development of emerging athletes.

“We are delighted to be part of the Malta 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for our rising stars to gain international experience and be part of a world-class multi-sport event,” Harradine said.

“Representing your country at this level is a proud moment for any young athlete and reinforces our commitment to providing development pathways that inspire and prepare the next generation.”

Malta 2027 will welcome around 1,150 athletes aged 14–18 from 74 nations and territories. The Games will be staged across four main venue clusters with two dedicated athlete villages, showcasing Malta’s world-class infrastructure and strong support for youth sport.

The inclusion of triathlon reflects its growing global appeal and the exciting opportunities it offers for youth participation and international competition.

“Events like these are where lifelong memories are made, and champions are born. We look forward to supporting our up-and-coming athletes on their journey to Malta 2027,” Harradine added.

Craig Phillips AM, Commonwealth Games Australia CEO said: “The Commonwealth Youth Games play a vital role in developing the next generation of athletes by giving them a unique opportunity to experience international competition in a multi-sport environment,” Phillips said.

“For many, it’s their first taste of representing Australia on the global stage, an experience that can shape their future in sport and beyond”.

“The Commonwealth Youth Games are an important part of our athlete development pathway, and we look forward to seeing Malta 2027 inspire and elevate our emerging talent.”

AusTriathlon will now work closely with Commonwealth Games Australia and other partners to support preparation processes leading up to the event.
