Over 1,260 Age Group athletes took to the start line for the Sprint Distance World Championships in Wollongong, proudly representing their nations in what was a spectacular showcase of short, fast age-group racing.
Swimmers were greeted with slightly cooler, overcast conditions to start the morning, but as the day heated up, so too did the racing. The atmosphere along Wollongong’s blue-carpeted finish line was electric, with friends, family, and supporters lining the course to cheer them home.
In total, Australia celebrated 15new World Champions across the Sprint distance event, reinforcing the nation’s depth of talent across all age brackets, proving triathlon is a sport with no limits.
Adding to the excitement were the dual World Champions, four athletes who conquered both the Standard and Sprint distance events, an incredible show of versatility and endurance. Congratulations to Lara Dawson (20–24 Female), Michellie Jones (55-59 Female), David McEwan (70-74 Male), Steve Parnell (80-84 Male), who each completed a remarkable double, taking home gold in both formats.
