Australia names record-breaking Age Group Team for World Triathlon Championship Finals Wollongong

4 Jul 2025

Australia is set to field its biggest-ever Age Group Team at a 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals, with 1,367 athletes selected to represent the green and gold on home soil in Wollongong.

The record-breaking team will race from 15–19 October, going head-to-head with the world’s best across Sprint and Standard Distance Triathlon, Aquabike, and Mixed Relay events in front of a passionate home crowd.

Australian Age Group Team Manager Alex Fehon said the anticipation for the World Championships returning home has been building for months, evident in the largest Age Group Team Australia has ever named.

“We’re incredibly proud to see so many Australians gearing up to race in green and gold in Wollongong,” Fehon said.

“This team is the largest we’ve ever named, and it perfectly reflects the passion we’re seeing across the age group community nationwide.

“A home World Championships doesn’t come around often. For many, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to race for their country with friends and family cheering from the sidelines – experiences like these stay with athletes long after the finish line.

“Our team brings together a wide range of stories, ages, and experiences, but they all share one thing – immense pride in representing Australia. There’s no doubt they will be the loudest, proudest, and most passionate team at the Championship Finals and I can’t wait to see what they achieve together.”

Unsurprisingly, New South Wales will provide the largest cohort, with 598 athletes selected from the host state to compete.

Queensland (363) and Victoria (193) have the second and third largest groups, while the Australian Capital Territory (95), South Australia (43), Western Australia (38), Tasmania (22), and the Northern Territory (15) round out the national line-up.

The 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals Wollongong is supported proudly by the NSW Government through Destination NSW in collaboration with Wollongong City Council.
