The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and Events Management Queensland (EMQ) have today announced a long-term agreement that will see the 2026 T100 Triathlon World Tour take place on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia from 2026.
The T100 Tour is a global series for the world’s greatest endurance athletes with Queensland’s popular event destination chosen to sit alongside other iconic locations including Singapore, San Francisco, London, Lake Las Vegas, Vancouver, Dubai and Qatar.
The inaugural Gold Coast T100 Triathlon weekend will take place over 21-22 March 2026, with the pro swim leg slated for the world-famous Surfers Paradise Beach and the bike and run legs taking to the picturesque Gold Coast streets, including the oceanfront Esplanade.
The two-day triathlon multisport festival will also include a mass participation 10km run as well as 100km (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run) and Sprint distance triathlons for amateur athletes, with the swim scheduled for the Gold Coast Broadwater and bike and run course to take in the city’s picturesque coastline. The festival will also include the newly created National Club Championships, in partnership with AusTriathlon, the national governing body for triathlon in Australia.
PTO CEO Sam Renouf said the Gold Coast ticked all the boxes when it comes to meeting the destination requirements with its world-famous beaches, well-known landmarks and its track record for delivering world-class multi-sport and sporting events.
“Whenever we’ve asked the triathlon community where they’d like us to add events, Australia is consistently at the top of the request list. So we are thrilled to be able to announce this long-term agreement to host the T100 on the beautiful Gold Coast, and to accelerate the growth and visibility of triathlon in the build up to the hosting of the 2032 Olympics.”
EMQ Chairman Paul Donovan said the Gold Coast T100 was a significant and prestigious addition to the city’s major event portfolio with the massive international focus showcasing our destination, event management capabilities and commitment to delivering world class events.
“We are delighted that the world’s greatest triathletes, including local favourite, Ashleigh Gentle, will kick start their T100 world championship aspirations here next year and that everyone will be able to come and watch and be inspired by these amazing sports stars.”
“It’s an absolute honour for the city to be chosen as host for T100 which will be followed by a mass participation triathlon where local, national and international amateur athletes can emulate their triathlon heroes in a Sprint and 100 km triathlon and a variety of shorter distance events.
“This is one of the most exciting events to come to this city and is another opportunity to celebrate our sporting culture and passion ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics,” Mr Donovan said.
EMQ CEO, Ben Mannion reinforced the Chairman’s comments saying T100 was an exciting and welcome addition to the city’s portfolio of major sporting events with the caliber of athlete competing in the race as inspirational as you can get in sport.
“This is a gruelling event and these athletes are fit, focused and fast. It is an opportunity for our community to embrace the sport at the very highest level and for our younger athletes to learn from the professionals.”
“Similar to the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, the Gold Coast T100 will bring with it extensive international media attention and we should not underestimate the economic and tourism benefits to the city and state as a result.”
“This is a feather in our sporting cap and the EMQ team is pumped and proud to share in the delivery of another spectacular event for the City of Gold Coast.”
The Queensland Minister for Tourism, Andrew Powell praised the PTO team for their vision and choice of destinations.
“This is a great opportunity for Queensland and the Gold Coast to again step onto the global stage and showcase our ability to host major events.
The T100 Triathlon World Tour will bring an international focus to our state and provide an economic boost to the local economy and tourism sector, whilst fostering and celebrating sporting talent from grassroots to professional levels.”
“I congratulate the PTO team for appreciating the Gold Coast and its attributes to host this event – this is indeed a coup for Queensland.”
City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said hosting the T100 Triathlon World Tour and the fact that the city had been purposefully chosen as a host destination was a tribute to its reputation as a destination for the world’s greatest sporting events.
“Our community should be incredibly proud of the fact that the Gold Coast is increasingly recognised as a sporting hub and a place where you can train and compete at the very highest level in triathlon and many other sports.
“I am personally delighted we will have the best triathletes in the world competing here in March bringing welcome global attention to our city and its vibrant sporting culture.”
T100 professional athlete Ashleigh Gentle, who finished second in the 2024 T100 series, lives on the Gold Coast and attended the launch, said:
“The T100 Triathlon World Tour coming to the Gold Coast is incredibly exciting. Australia has been asking for an event for a long time, so to secure one on the Gold Coast in Queensland, the most perfect place to race a triathlon, is really exciting.
“I can’t wait to be able to race on home turf, in front of a home crowd and be able to experience the course with Gold Coasters and Australians.”
AusTriathlon CEO Tim Harradine said he is proud to see Australia take its place on the global calendar as we launch the highly anticipated T100 racing season for 2026, showcasing some of the very best racing on the planet.
“The Gold Coast holds an iconic place in triathlon history, and this event presents exciting new opportunities for the growth of our sport. We’re looking forward to an action-packed schedule that offers something for everyone. Whether it’s stepping onto the start line or cheering on the incredible performances of elite athletes from around the world, the stage is set for a great event.”
Also commenting on the news, Antonio F. Arimany, President of World Triathlon, said:
“The announcement of the T100 race in the Gold Coast for 2026 is a significant moment for World Triathlon and PTO, and a testament to Australia’s growing importance as a global triathlon hub.
“Following the upcoming World Triathlon Championship Finals in Wollongong this October, and with the Brisbane Olympics on the horizon – where we anticipate a fantastic triathlon event potentially hosted on the Gold Coast – this event further solidifies Australia’s commitment to our sport and its ability to deliver world-class competitions.
“We are also extremely proud that this announcement solidifies our partnership with the PTO even further. We are incredibly excited to bring the T100 series to Australia for the first time and witness the enthusiasm and passion of the Australian triathlon community.”
The 2025 T100 Triathlon World Tour got under way in Singapore last month (5-6 April) when Great Britain’s Kate Waugh and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde produced two world class performances to win in the heat and humidity of the Lion City and take the lead in the T100 Race To Qatar Rankings. Waugh described her win as ‘the biggest victory of her career’, while Wilde was buzzing to get ‘to take the win and get his season off to a really good high’.
The next leg of the 2025 T100 Tour will be in San Francisco on 31 May, when the world top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes will take on the legendary Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon – a bucket list race for both professionals and amateurs worldwide.
The 2026 T100 Triathlon is supported by Experience Gold Coast and the Queensland Government through Tourism & Events Queensland.
