In the early hours of Sunday morning (Australian time), three of Australia’s leading long course professional triathletes, Katie Remond, Penny Slater, and Regan Hollioake, will represent the green and gold at the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

They’ll join nearly 60 of the world’s top professional female athletes in pursuit of the IRONMAN World Champion title and a share of the $375,000 USD prize purse. Alongside them, more than 1,600 age group women will also take on the legendary course, including a strong contingent of Australian women, in what promises to be a celebration of endurance, determination, and the global triathlon community.

Central Coast-based athlete Katie Remond will make her IRONMAN World Championship debut after a remarkable journey from age-group competitor to professional. Raised on a remote property in northern New South Wales, Remond’s early days were spent running behind sheep and swimming in dams — a far cry from the lava fields of Kona.

Since turning professional two years ago, Remond has steadily climbed the ranks, with a second-place finish at IRONMAN Malaysia in 2024 securing her spot in this year’s championship.

“For me, success looks like running down Ali’i Drive knowing I’ve given my all and raced bravely – no holding back, no ‘what ifs’,” said Remond.

Canberra’s Penny Slater returns for her fourth IRONMAN World Championship and third in Kona. After debuting in 2022 as one of the youngest professionals in the field, Slater has continued to improve year-on-year, placing 13th in 2023 and seventh in 2024 when the race was held in Nice, France.

Despite a challenging 2025 season, Slater arrives in Kona fitter than ever and mentally prepared to deliver a career-defining performance.

“I feel mentally ready to go deep and get the best out of myself on the day,” Slater said. “Anything in the top 10 would be a great day out in such a competitive field.”

Making her IRONMAN World Championship debut is Regan Hollioake, a 36-year-old from Nathalia, Victoria. Hollioake turned professional after setting the fastest-ever women’s age-group time at IRONMAN Western Australia in 2023 and has since claimed victories at IRONMAN Australia, IRONMAN Malaysia, and IRONMAN New Zealand.

Now, she’s ready to test herself against the world’s best.

“It’s my first World Champs so I have zero pressure on me,” said Hollioake. “I know all I have to do is my best on the day.”

The women’s professional race begins at 6:25 a.m. HST on Saturday 11 October / 3:25 a.m. AEDT on Sunday 12 October. Live coverage will be available via:
