With just over six weeks to go until the Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG) Triathlon, excitement is building across the local triathlon community. One person particularly looking forward to the event is Dave Reeve, President of the Alice Springs Triathlon Club, passionate triathlete, and this year’s Triathlon Flag Bearer.
Being selected as the Triathlon Flag Bearer for the Games is a significant honour, and Dave is proud to represent both the sport and the Alice Springs triathlon community on such a special occasion.
A familiar face at local events, Dave’s enthusiasm for triathlon is clear. When asked about his favourite discipline, the answer came quickly.
“Definitely the bike!” he said.
When it comes to race distances, Dave prefers the fast-paced nature of sprint racing.
“Sprint is my pick.”
Like many triathletes, however, Dave admits there’s one part of the sport that still challenges him.
“Transition is definitely my weakness! I take too long to dry my feet and put my socks on!”
Despite competing in events beyond Alice Springs, Dave says there is no place he’d rather race than at home.
“Alice Springs, of course!”
As President of the Alice Springs Triathlon Club, Dave is also looking beyond race day and the opportunities the Games can create for the local sporting community.
“I’m hoping new participants become interested in the sport, join the club, and take part in the events we have on offer,” he said.
The Alice Springs Masters Games provide a unique opportunity to showcase triathlon to athletes and spectators from across Australia, while also inspiring locals to give the sport a go. With community leaders like Dave helping drive participation and enthusiasm, the future looks bright for triathlon in the Northern Territory.
