NSW Ambassador – Meet Moni Royds

21 Aug 2026

NSW Triathlon is proud to launch our Ambassadors for Season 26/27 – a celebration of the people who make our community stronger, more connected, and more inspiring. Across the season, we’ll be sharing these stories of athletes from all walks of life who embody the spirit of our sport. You’ll see them at events, club races, and of course on our social channels, so be sure to say hello – they’re here to support, encourage, and champion the triathlon community across NSW.

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce our first Ambassador: Moni Royds of Concord Triathlon Club.

Triathlon entered Moni’s life less than two years ago, but in that short time, it has reshaped her world in profound and unexpected ways.

After losing her sister to cancer, Moni found herself reflecting deeply on the fragility and preciousness of life. That moment became a catalyst: a reminder to embrace opportunities, challenge herself, and make the most of every day.

What began as a personal commitment to movement and wellbeing soon evolved into something much bigger.

“I’ve always enjoyed being active, but I never expected to find myself competing in triathlons, qualifying for World Championships, or representing Australia,” Moni shared. Yet that’s exactly what she’s achieved so far in her triathlon journey, earning qualification for the 2025 World Championships in Wollongong and securing a spot for Pontevedra this year, although she won’t be able to attend.

At 50 years old, Moni is a testament to the power of starting – no matter your age, background, or experience.

She taught herself to swim.

She learned to ride a road bike for the first time.

She leaned into her lifelong love of running.

And she fell head‑over‑heels for triathlon.

Her achievements are remarkable, but for Moni, the real reward has been the people she’s met along the way. “What I value most are the friendships, support, and sense of belonging that the triathlon community has given me.”

As a TriMums Ambassador, Moni has already been a powerful advocate for women stepping into the sport – especially those who doubt their ability or feel unsure about where to begin. She believes wholeheartedly that every athlete’s journey is worth celebrating, whether it’s a podium finish, a personal best, or simply the courage to show up.

“Every milestone deserves recognition,” she says, and she lives that message through her actions, her encouragement, and her unwavering positivity.

And this is exactly why we know Moni will make an incredible Team NSW Ambassador. She embodies what make our communities special. She shared that this is another way for her to give back to the sport that has given her so much and a chance to inspire others to discover what they are capable of and find the same sense of belonging that she has.

Welcome Moni, we’re excited to have you on the team!
