NSW Triathlon State Long Course Championship Results

24 Sep 2025

The best NSW long course athletes showed up at Penrith over the weekend as IRONMAN 70.3 Western Sydney hosted the 2025 NSW State Long Course Championships. Athletes from every corner of the state battled for medals, pride, and the chance to be crowned State Champion — and the results showed just how strong and diverse our clubs are.

From the Hills District to Port Macquarie, the South Coast to the Central West, champions came from far and wide, with several clubs celebrating multiple winners.

Clubs Shine with Multiple Champions

It was a huge day for Panthers Tri Club, who claimed three State Champions: Leon Sharp (M30–34), John Hughes (M50–55), and Darren Powell (M55–59). Their dominance across both the younger and more experienced age groups highlighted the depth of the club’s racing pedigree.

Moore Performance Tri Club also celebrated multiple golds, with Thales Da Silva Souza (M25–29), Sabine D’Haeseleer (F55–59), and Nick Taylor (M65–69) each earning the title of State Champion.

Warringah Tri Club continued their tradition of producing champions, with Helen Hutchinson (F35–39) and Graham Bruce (M60–64) adding to the club’s already impressive honours list.

Champions from Across the State

The spread of winners showcased the strength of triathlon across NSW.

  • Grace Hayward (Hills TC) and David McEwan (Hills TC) bookended the weekend by winning the youngest (F18–24) and most experienced (M70–74) age groups.
  • Ben Barby (Port Macquarie TC) and Joel Armitage (Port Macquarie TC) gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, with double wins for the Mid North Coast club.
  • The South Coast also stood tall with Tanya Fraser (Kiama TC) taking out F45–49.
  • Other champions included Hannah Gumbley (Coogee TC), Rebecca Caulfield (Central Coast TC), Esteban Gimenez Zapiola (Manly Vipers TC), Anna Wilcox (STG TC), Travis Shields (Balance TC), Gemma Figtree (Balmoral TC), and Beth Woollett (Maitland TC).

A Celebration of NSW Triathlon

NSW Triathlon President Deanna Waters presented the medals on stage, celebrating not only the champions but also the depth of participation and spirit across all competitors.

“This event shows the strength of our triathlon community,” she said. “We had champions from metro Sydney, regional hubs, and coastal towns all sharing the podium. It’s exactly what State Championships are about.”
