The annual Triathlon NSW Club Championships once again brought the triathlon community together on Worimi Country (Forster). A crowd of just under 1,000 made the annual trip into town, featuring hundreds of athletes, over 150 volunteers and a dedicated Technical Official team of 17, gathered for a weekend of exhilarating competition and camaraderie.
The Tri Gods had our backs and the weather turned out to be beautiful, complemented by a sensational water temperature of 20.4 degrees! The term ‘perfect racing conditions’ was thrown around by many athletes, as they swam and cycled through the course, culminating in two laps of the 4km run course, meaning a trip through ‘Club Tent alley’, full of cheers, passion and motivation that comes from club mates.
On Saturday morning, NSW tri club members from clubs across NSW, including the Central West, South Coast, North Coast, Hunter and Sydney, arrived on Forster Main beach in their vibrant club kits, ready to tackle the course. Triathlon NSW CEO Adam Wicks expressed immense pride in the event, highlighting its significance as a celebration of clubs and their members, while also praising the dedication of volunteers and officials.
“I’ve been to many NSW Triathlon Club Champs over the years, and it’s always a special and unique event experience. But 2024 was a true highlight with spectacular weather, crystal clear and warm water, and a vibe and atmosphere that is a reminder about why triathlon and our community are so special,” remarked Adam Wicks.
This year, athletes were given the choice of either receiving their exclusive event apparel merchandise , or forgoing their T-Shirt and instead donating the equivalent amount to event ambassadors Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexanders charities of choice. Crowie chose two foundations that are close and important to him personally, the Starlight Foundation and the TRIMOB Foundation. A total of 108 athletes took this option, meaning a small but helpful donation of $1600 will be contributed back to these foundations. This has the added benefit of reducing the events carbon footprint and creating less unwanted apparel in the world.
Notable achievements over the weekend included Brighton Baths securing their maiden victory, while Warringah made history with an unprecedented fifth consecutive win. The Junior division saw Cronulla clinch a breakthrough victory, inspiring the next generation of triathletes. From a region that produced athletes like Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexander, Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack and Nathan ‘The Breen Machine’ Breen, a strong Cronulla means a strong sport both nationally and internationally!
Despite the fierce competition on the course, the real showdown unfolded on the dance floor at the after-party. Once again, the party proved to be an important event for our entire community to come together and celebrate Triathlon. The events success was a real testament to the spirit of community, competition, and celebration that defines our sport.
The event was hosted by H Events, led CEO Paul Humphreys and his dedicated team, the event showcased their unwavering commitment to delivering excellence in sports events. Paul commented, “We love staging Club Champs. After 30 years organising Triathlon events, we cherish the opportunity to work with Club ‘vollies’ who are passionate and knowledgeable in bringing it all together. The atmosphere on the lap and finish area was second to none”. A huge thank you goes out H events for such an amazing weekend.
