After a six year hiatus, the Alice Springs Masters Games returned bigger and better, hosting 1,240 registered participants competing across 23 sports from 13-19th October 2024.

First launched in 1986, the Alice Springs event is the second oldest Masters Games in the world, with this year’s edition played out across 26 venues, supported by 267 volunteers, dozens of sport coordinators, and sports medical officers.

The triathlon events took place on Saturday October 19th, with two options for distance available – Sprint (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) and Enticer (300m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run).

In what was an incredible turnout, the triathlon events saw 70 participants ranging from ages 25-79 years old battle it out.

With females making up 75% of the field, 79-year-old Patty Buntine led the charge having participated in Alice Springs Masters Games for an impressive 30 years.

Local member Josh Burgoyne took out the short course title, in an event field that was predominantly made up of first-time athletes.

The highly successful event saw a proud Alice Springs community, and a network of participants incredibly grateful for the hard work put in by Jesse Mortensen and Craig Needham to make the event happen.

If you missed out on competing in the Alice Springs Masters Games this year, the games will be back in 2026. More information to be made available in the coming months.
