Townsville ready to host Multisport World Championships

8 Aug 2024

With the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships Townsville 2024 now only one week away, competitors from around the world are preparing to descend on North Queensland for the 12 day event.

In what will be the largest sporting spectacle to ever be held in Townsville, more than 3,000 competitors representing almost 30 countries will take part in 19 World Championship races across five different levels of athletes, including Age Group, Para triathletes, Junior, Under 23 and Elites.

AusTriathlon CEO, Tim Harradine says the Australian triathlon community is more than up for the challenge.

“AusTriathlon is looking forward to welcoming triathletes from around the world to our shores for the upcoming Multisport World Championships,” said Harradine.

“Taking place from the 14th to the 25th of August 2024, the event will feature more than 1,000 individual 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Members representing as the host nation.

“We look forward to supporting all of our Australian athletes as they compete over the course of the event, and wish everyone the best of luck.

“I’d also like to recognise the seven athletes competing in five or more events in an effort to be crowned World Triathlon Multisport Legends. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say you will have the nation behind you.

“We can’t wait to cheer everyone down the finish in Townsville.”

With at least a couple of days of downtime expected for athletes during the event, there’s plenty to enjoy and explore in Townsville.

Here’s five great things you can do on your days off:
