With the Whitsundays as a picturesque backdrop, the 2024 North Queensland Club Championships took place within the The Coral Sea Marina, Resort Airlie Beach Triathlon from 27-28 July 2024.
An outstanding showing from Mackay-based club, Tri-Activ8 saw them claim this year’s North Queensland Club Championship trophy over the other 10 clubs in attendance, earning a total of 58 points across the event.
Director and Head Performance Coach of Tri-Activ8, Nikki Giles was thrilled to see the efforts of club members pay off.
“It’s such an honour to take home the title at the North Queensland Club Championships,” said Giles.
“I was so proud to see so many of our triathlon suits and pink shirts standing out amongst the crowd celebrating and cheering each other on. That was one of the best parts about it, how supportive the club members were of each other,” she said.
As a club, Tri-Activ8 achieved success at this same event in 2021 where they also secured the Championship title.
Known for their welcoming atmosphere and genuine care about the general wellbeing of their members, Tri-Activ8 returned to Airlie Beach with the trophy in mind.
“It’s so great that AusTriathlon hosts an event like this for the regional and remote areas. Being based in Mackay, a lot of us find it really difficult and expensive to be able to travel, so it’s amazing to have the opportunity to participate in a Club Championships up here.
“We took the event out in 2021 when it was in Airlie beach as well, so we definitely wanted to come back and compete for that second trophy,” said Giles.
Successfully securing their third ever podium finish at the event, Mackay Triathlon Club finished in second position with a total of 49 points.
Also finishing on the podium were Townsville Triathlon Club Inc who finished in third, continuing their streak of making the podium at every North Queensland Club Championships since the inaugural event in 2017.
