Rising Australian triathletes Darcy Williams and Oscar Wootton have been recognised for their commitment to excellence both in and out of sport, receiving Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Athlete Education Scholarships for 2026.
The scholarships, delivered in partnership between the AIS and the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation, provide financial support of up to $5,000 to help high performance athletes balance the demands of elite sport and tertiary education. This year, 51 athletes from 22 national sporting organisations were selected to receive a scholarship.
Williams, a member of the AusTriathlon Ascent Academy, is currently studying Data Science and Analytics, while fellow Ascent Academy athlete Wootton is undertaking a Physiotherapy degree at Griffith University.
The scholarships will help both athletes continue building their careers away from sport while pursuing their ambitions on the international triathlon stage.
AusTriathlon High Performance Director Shaun Stephens welcomed the recognition for both athletes.
“Darcy and Oscar are outstanding examples of the next generation of Australian triathletes. Their dedication to both their education and sporting development reflects the professionalism and commitment required to succeed in high performance sport.”

The AIS Athlete Education Scholarship Program is designed to support holistic athlete development, helping athletes prepare for life beyond sport while also enhancing their performance during their competitive careers. Since 2020, the program has supported 278 athletes with more than $850,000 in education funding.
AIS Director Matti Clements said the program reflects the AIS commitment to supporting athletes to “Win Well”.
“We know athletes perform at their best when they are supported to grow as people, pursue interests beyond sport and build confidence in their skills and abilities outside of competition.”
The scholarship program has recently been extended through to the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic cycle, ensuring future athletes continue to benefit from the opportunity to pursue education alongside high performance sport.
For Williams and Wootton, the scholarships represent another important step in a journey that combines academic ambition with the pursuit of sporting excellence.
