The Gold Coast has strengthened its position as the home of Australian triathlon, with AusTriathlon and the City of Gold Coast officially opening a new High Performance Hub that will support the nation’s Olympic and Paralympic aspirations ahead of LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
The opening marks an important milestone in the growing partnership between AusTriathlon and the City of Gold Coast, following the establishment of AusTriathlon’s national headquarters in the region and a shared commitment to supporting high-performance sport, athlete development and community participation.
Located at the Miami Aquatic Centre, the purpose-built High Performance Hub provides a dedicated environment for athletes and coaches to train, recover and connect. As the home of the Ascent Academy, the Hub will support Australia’s emerging triathlon talent while providing a collaborative environment for athletes and coaches preparing to compete on the world stage.
With its world-class training environment, iconic events calendar and proposed role as the triathlon venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, the Gold Coast continues to play a leading role in the future of the sport in Australia.
World Champion Matt Hauser was excited to see the high performance hub launched on Tuesday.
“It’s great the Gold Coast and Triathlon has this facility where athletes can come and train and perform at a high level,” Hauser said.
“I think this hub will really help young triathletes all over the country, especially as we build towards LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032.”
The High Performance Hub is designed to support athletes at every stage of the performance pathway, from emerging talent through to Olympic and Paralympic contenders. More than 90 national pathway athletes are expected to benefit from regular access to the facility.
AusTriathlon CEO Tim Harradine said the opening represents an important step forward for the sport.
“The Gold Coast has become the home of Australian triathlon and we’re proud to further strengthen our connection to the region through the opening of this High Performance Hub,” Harradine said.
“This facility provides athletes and coaches with a dedicated environment where they can train, recover and connect, while helping us build a strong performance culture that supports success on the world stage.
“As we look towards LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032, the Hub will play an important role in supporting both our current athletes and the next generation coming through the pathway.”
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the investment further reinforced the city’s reputation as a premier sporting destination.
“The Gold Coast offers world-class training conditions, infrastructure and lifestyle,” Mayor Tate said.
“This facility will not only support elite athletes but deliver long-term economic and community benefits for our city.”
AusTriathlon High Performance Director Shaun Stephens said the Hub represents a significant advancement in the support available to Australia’s high-performance athletes and coaches.
“The High Performance Hub creates an environment where athletes and coaches can work, learn and grow together while remaining connected to the broader daily training environments that contribute to Australia’s triathlon success,” Stephens said.

The High Performance Hub is a key delivery pillar of AusTriathlon’s Win Well strategy, supporting athlete wellbeing, performance excellence and a strong performance culture.
The facility aligns with Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport best practice, creating an environment that emphasises collaboration, connection and consistency.
Together, the partnership between AusTriathlon and the City of Gold Coast, alongside investments such as the High Performance Hub, are helping shape a new era for Australian triathlon, strengthening pathways and supporting sustained success on the world stage.
