The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Taupo, New Zealand, drew a massive field of over 6,000 athletes from 119 countries with eight Australians rising to the occasion to clinch world titles.
Olympic silver medallist, Michellie Jones (F55-59), added another world title to her impressive career.
As a professional, Jones won two ITU world titles, an IRONMAN World Championship, and guided 2024 AusTriathlon Hall of Fame inductee, Katie Kelly, to two World Triathlon Para Championships and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games gold. She has since added two World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Championships in 2014 and 2017.
Kevin Fergusson (M65-69) wrapped up a sensational 2024 with his sixth world title, having already earned World Triathlon Multisport Legend status and five gold medals earlier in the year at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Townsville.
Nic Beveridge’s (M-HC) win at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships was a fitting capstone to a year in which he became the first para triathlete to compete at three Paralympic Games for Australia.
Completing the standout performances in Taupo were Jasmine Brown (F18-24), Thomas Page (M25-29), Will Clarke (M35-39), Chris Bradford (M50-54), and Mark Clough (M55-59), each capturing a coveted world title in their respective categories.
