Triathlon is not just about competing in events, it’s about being a part of a strong community that is built by the sport, and maintained by the inspiring people you meet along the way.
Competing in a Weetbix Kids Triathlon as a child, Skye Wallace got back into triathlon 5 years ago, turning her passion of running into a passion for triathlon.
Now having been competing for years, Skye has had the opportunity to to race both in Australia and abroad.
“One of my favourite locations to race is the Runaway Bay Series up in Queensland, because you’re racing with your friends,” Wallace said.
“I’ve also been able to go race over in Europe, and Switzerland particularly, the country is just so beautiful.”
Having competed in the Ironman 70.3 Melbourne last weekend, Skye is looking forward to the 2025 domestic season ahead.
“The Ironman was great and it was my first professional race,” she said.
“It was a change of dynamic but I really enjoyed it, and it was such a good experience with lots of supporters there who made it really special.
“In 2025, I am going to focus on the domestic season, and it would be good to try and get a pro podium somewhere, that’s definitely a goal.”
Speaking highly of the community she’s found herself in while competing in triathlon’s, Skye is grateful for the opportunities she’s had to meet incredible people.
“I love the community around triathlon,” Wallace said.
“It is one of those sports where whatever you put in, you can get back in return.
“I have been able to meet some of my best friends through sport and been able to travel the world which gave me the opportunity to go to all these different places and now I’ve met friends abroad who are friends for life.
“Triathlon also brings together different people from all different ages, and I really like that about it too.”
As an athlete enjoying triathlon, Skye urges those that are looking to make a start in the sport not to be intimidated.
“Do not be intimidated by all the fancy bikes, fancy equipment and all the expensive things,” she said.
“Just have fun.”
