Matt Hauser withdraws from World Triathlon Cup Wollongong

Australian triathlete Matt Hauser has withdrawn from the upcoming World Triathlon Cup Wollongong due to illness.

Hauser, who was eagerly anticipated to compete in front of a home crowd, battled food poisoning earlier in the week and has not fully recovered.

The decision to withdraw from the Wollongong event was made after careful consideration of Hauser’s health and his preparation for the upcoming World Triathlon Championship Series Yokohama and the lead-up to the Paris Olympic Games.

“After dealing with a food poisoning earlier in the week, I have not been able to fully recover in time for the World Triathlon Cup in Wollongong,” Hauser said.

“While I would have loved to compete in front of a home crowd, I must prioritise my health as I look ahead to Yokohama and the months of preparation leading up to Paris.”

“I want to thank everyone for their support and understanding, Wollongong has been fantastic this week. It’s been a tough decision not to race. But I’m looking forward to cheering everyone on tomorrow and being on the start line in The Gong at next year’s World Triathlon Championship Finals.”
