Road to Wollongong I Kerrie & Milli Gentle

17 Sep 2025

Dynamic and passionate mother and daughter duo, Kerrie and Milli Gentle, are training hard as the excitement of competing in the 2025 World Triathlon Championships together continues to build.

For daughter Milli, Wollongong will be the first time she has competed at this level and she can’t wait to don the green and gold alongside her mum in October.

I started triathlons at about 5 years old, running around in the kids triathlons as early as I could,” Milli said.

“I had a few years off after I turned 18 and this is my first year back and I’m currently being coached under the GPC Tri Group, based out of Geelong.

“Although, I’m currently in Adelaide so I do a lot of my training by myself, but previously I’d do most of my swimming and bike sessions with mum.

“I can’t wait to experience the World Championships with my mum and close friends, not a lot of people can say they’ve repped the green and gold with their mum!

“It’s pretty surreal to be putting on the green and gold, it’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing and I’m counting down the weeks till I get to put it on!

“This will be my first time competing at this level, mums competed multiple times, and the familiarity of being home turf and not having to travel too far will be so lovely.

“Competing with mum makes it a bit easier for us to understand how one another is feeling, the nerves, the excitement and it allows you to ride the way of emotions together!”

For Kerrie, competing in triathlons over the last 30 years has been an amazing experience, but getting to see and compete at the same World Championships as her daughter is something she is grateful for.

I have competed in triathlons on and off for 30 years, and my first encounter was just doing each of the three disciplines for fitness,” Kerrie said.

“It’s very exciting this year, with my daughter Milli racing in her first Worlds, and not many mums can say they have been able to compete at this level with their children.

“I also have friends from my home town of Tumut competing for the first time which will also make the week so special.

“This is our first major event together, and it is so much easier being on Aussie soil, and I’m just excited to see Milli and our other friends achieve their goals and rock the green and gold in Wollongong.”

The 2025 World Triathlon Championships will take place in Wollongong, Australia from 15 – 19 October 2025.
