AusTriathlon officially launches refreshed high performance program

AusTriathlon has officially launched its refreshed high performance program at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in the heart of the Southport Broadwater Parklands.

The launch, held as part of a two-day athlete and staff camp, marked a significant milestone in the organisation’s renewed vision of delivering extraordinary performances and people inspiring the nation.

Supported by Commonwealth Games Australia through the Green2Gold2Great funding program, the event brought together athletes, coaches, program staff, and key partners to align on the shared vision and ignite excitement for the road to the LA 2028 Games, 2030 Commonwealth Games and Brisbane 2032 Games.

High Performance Director Shaun Stephens said the camp was designed not only to provide clarity around the new direction but also to fuel the optimism and motivation needed to pursue podium success on the world stage.

“The camp has been a fantastic opportunity to provide as much information for the athletes given the recent changes though the high performance strategy that we’ve just delivered.  What sits below that is creating the optimism and excitement about the opportunity that lay ahead over the next seven years leading into Brisbane 2032,” Stephens said.

“We’re encompassing all our athletes, whether they’re categorised or non-categorised because we know with the opportunity that lies ahead… we’ve got some great talent in the room and with the excitement of the Games ahead we want to capture everyone in that journey.

“Triathlon in Australia hasn’t delivered the performances we’ve seen in the past or know we’re capable of. This program is about rebuilding that belief. There’s a real sense of optimism growing and through this camp, we’ve seen people start to feel it’s possible again – that it’s worth the hard work.”

Chief Executive Officer Tim Harradine acknowledged the journey it’s taken to get to this point, saying the relaunch signifies a new beginning for the high performance program.

“We’ve been through a big journey to renew our high performance strategy and we’re relaunching our program today as a brand new start towards our journey to 2032 and beyond,” Harradine said.

“This is a big step for this program, we’ve had a lot of change and that comes with lots of input and lots of feedback over time. This has been an opportunity for us to get everybody on the same page. It’s been an opportunity for us to align the whole program top to bottom and give everybody the foundation of what this High Performance 2032+ strategy is all about.

“We’ve put a brand new team together to deliver this strategy. We’ve really focused on resourcing this strategy with the right amount of expertise that we need to take our program into LA, Brisbane and beyond.”
