NSW Welcomes Three New Board Directors
NSW Triathlon is pleased to welcome three new directors to its Board following our recent call for Expressions of Interest (EOI).
The process attracted a strong field of applicants and highlighted the depth of capability and passion across our triathlon community. Following a considered selection process, NSW Triathlon has appointed three directors who collectively strengthen the Board’s capability across governance, risk management, member engagement, commercial strategy, marketing, and participation growth.
These appointments come at an important time for the sport in NSW, as we continue to focus on supporting clubs and volunteers, improving participation pathways, and strengthening the long‑term sustainability of triathlon statewide.
Deanna Waters, President of NSW Triathlon, said:
“The response to our Expressions of Interest process was outstanding and speaks to the strength of our triathlon community. We’re delighted to welcome Sarah, Will and Rees to the Board—each brings valuable skills, fresh perspective, and a genuine commitment to helping triathlon thrive across NSW.”
Sarah Watson (Yass Valley Triathlon Club)
Sarah Watson joins the Board bringing strong experience in club building, community engagement and governance.
In 2022, Sarah founded the Yass Valley Triathlon Club, personally recruiting the inaugural committee and stepping into the role of President (a position she has since been re‑elected to). Under her leadership, the club has grown to 60+ members and has delivered five Triathlon Australia-sanctioned events, attracting 400+ participants, including many new to triathlon and multisport.
Sarah also contributed to statewide member engagement through the inaugural Triathlon NSW Ambassador Program, where her focus included encouraging greater female participation and visibility—particularly among middle‑aged women and mothers.
Will Beukes (Cronulla Triathlon Club)
Will Beukes brings to the Board deep expertise in marketing, digital transformation, commercial growth and customer experience, alongside strong grassroots involvement through Cronulla Triathlon Club. Within triathlon, Will began his Triathlon journey as a junior, competing at both national and international levels, and now continue as an age-grouper, bringing a lifelong and deeply informed passion for the sport. In Club land, he is actively involved at Cronulla Triathlon Club, supporting the junior program, organising coaching and events, assisting with fundraising, and contributing to club communications and social media—bringing a practical, club‑level lens to his Board contribution.
Will also offers not‑for‑profit governance insight as a board member of the Snacktember charity, contributing to governance, compliance and strategic decision‑making in a member‑based organisation.
Rees Taylor (Independent Appointed Director)
Rees Taylor joins the Board as an independent appointed director, bringing substantial experience in major events, commercial strategy, marketing and financial governance across elite sporting organisations.
Rees brings over a decade of commercial experience across organisations including the National Rugby League, Rugby Australia, and Canterbury‑Bankstown Bulldogs, and is currently leading the Marketing and Brand function for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027. His experience spans marketing (digital and traditional), event delivery, revenue growth, team management and stakeholder management—skills that complement the Board’s strategic priorities.
As an active member of the triathlon community, Rees’ connection to the sport began in 2019, progressing from local multisport events through to completing a full-distance IRONMAN, and he is passionate about contributing to the sport that has had a positive impact on his life.
NSW Triathlon extends sincere thanks to everyone who submitted an Expression of Interest. The quality of applicants and willingness to contribute reflects the strength of our triathlon community across NSW.
