Australia has delivered a strong performance in the opening Mixed Team Relay of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series, finishing fourth in Quiberon, France, as the race also marked the first opportunity for nations to earn Olympic qualification points towards LA 2028.

The Australian quartet of Aspen Anderson, Luke Schofield, Richelle Hill and Callum McClusky combined for a composed and consistent performance against the world’s strongest relay nations, narrowly missing the podium in a high-quality international field.

France completed a clean sweep of the weekend on home soil, taking victory ahead of Italy and Spain, with Australia crossing the line in fourth after remaining in podium contention throughout much of the race.

The result capped a positive weekend for the Australian team following solid performances in Saturday’s individual World Triathlon Championship Series sprint races, where Callum McClusky recorded Australia’s best individual finish with 12th in the men’s event.

With Olympic qualification points now on offer through the Mixed Team Relay, Australia’s fourth-place finish provides an encouraging foundation as the team builds towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

The Mixed Team Relay format sees teams of two women and two men each complete a super-sprint triathlon before tagging the next athlete, creating one of the fastest and most exciting formats in the sport.

The World Triathlon Championship Series continues next month in Hamburg, where Australia will again target valuable championship and Olympic qualification points.

Australia’s emerging triathletes produced encouraging performances at the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series event in Quiberon, France, with all four athletes finishing inside the top 35 against world-class fields.

In the men’s sprint-distance race, Callum McClusky led the Australian charge with an impressive 12th-place finish, continuing his strong progression on the World Triathlon circuit. Luke Schofield’s debut at a WTCS race was impressive, recording the fastest bike split of the day and leading the field out of T2, he eventually crossed the line in 19th.

Australia’s women also gained valuable Championship Series experience, with Sophie Malowiecki finishing 17th after a consistent race, while Tara Sosinski claimed 33rd in another important step in her development at the elite level.

The WTCS Quiberon event was won by France’s Dorian Coninx in the men’s race and fellow French star Cassandre Beaugrand in the women’s event, delighting the home crowds on the Brittany coast.

Next stop is Hamburg (11–12 July), where Australia will attempt to defend its Mixed Team Relay World Championship crown, with Elite men’s, women’s and World Triathlon Para Series races also on the program.
