Australia’s medal tally at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pontevedra has climbed to nine, with Tamika Baynes and Laura Gillard adding to the green and gold success in Thursday’s Cross Duathlon Championships.

Backing up her gold in the Cross Triathlon earlier in the week, Baynes claimed her second world title of the Championships, taking out the 20–24 Female Age Group category.

The Queenslander’s dominant display caps off a remarkable comeback after missing last year’s edition with a broken collarbone just weeks out from race day.

Gillard once again impressed on the world stage, collecting two medals from the Cross Duathlon.

The New South Welshwomen finished third overall in the elite race, which also saw her earn a silver medal in the Under 23 category – mirroring her silver from the Cross Triathlon earlier in the week.

The Australian team now boasts a tally of four gold, three silver and two bronze medals, with more racing to come.

The action continues on Friday with the Aquathlon Championships, before Sunday’s Long Distance and Aquabike events bring the curtain down on an action-packed week in Pontevedra.
