Hailing from Victoria, Cameron Marshall is set to represent Australia at the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships in Townsville later this month.

Having recently secured his third straight Australian Intellectual Impairment title, Marshall qualified top in his age group for the World Championships in his main event, the Standard Duathlon.

Also competing in the Sprint Duathlon and Aquathlon, Marshall is looking forward to making his debut at a World Triathlon event.

“I have never competed in a World Triathlon event and it has always been a goal of mine to do so alongside other Australian and International athletes,” said Marshall.

“I hope to perform well in my age group and would love to be on the podium.

“I love travelling to events and immersing myself in the buzz that these types of events provide. Not having ever been to Townsville, I am looking forward to discovering a new city and all it has to offer.”

After quickly developing a love for the sport as a child, Marshall now dedicates much of his time to training and competition.

“Triathlon has become my primary sport and focus and much of my week revolves around training in the three disciplines,” he said.

“It has enabled me to make many friendships with others in the sport and the triathlon community is really fantastic.

“Competing is a real highlight for me and the challenge of the sport drives me to improve.”

Having got his start in the sport when Liz Gosper – founder of Inclusive Sports Training and a teacher at his school – brought the sport to his attention, Marshall has developed into a fierce competitor.

“My journey was through the 2XU series initially, competing in the kids triathlon and working through multiclass events to now compete in a mainstream setting.

“I was selected to be a part of the Triathlon Victoria Development Program which led to taking part in Victorian Performance Triathlon Academy and AusTriathlon camps. These were great environments to learn and meet my peer group.

“The Para National Championships remain the pinnacle event for me at this point in my career, but I’m looking forward to the challenge the World Championships will bring,” Marshall said.
