The City of Devonport, Tasmania’s spiritual home of triathlon, will again host the 2024 World Triathlon Para Series (WTPS) opener as part of a festival of triathlon in March.
World Triathlon Para Series Devonport is expected to attract Paralympic and World Champions to the Mersey Bluff precinct – which has a long and storied history of hosting major international triathlons.
In a pivotal year with the spotlight firmly fixed on the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Devonport emerges as a crucial opportunity for athletes to earn points on the qualification rankings before the qualification period ends on 1 July 2024.
In addition to hosting the World Triathlon Para Series opener, Devonport will also host the Oceania Triathlon Sprint and Mixed Relay Championships and the Australian Elite & Under 23 Sprint Championships.
Age Group athletes will have the chance to showcase their skills on the same course as world-class athletes, as the event also hosts the Tasmanian Standard Distance Championships, cementing the weekend’s status as a true festival of triathlon.
AusTriathlon Chief Executive Officer, Tim Harradine, said:
“We’re thrilled to be back in Devonport, a city that consistently showcases its unwavering commitment to our sport,” Harradine said.
“Devonport remains a crucial stop on the world calendar, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of triathlon in our country.
“The event is a fantastic opportunity to support our athletes as they continue to carve their path towards Paris.
“The weekend will be a true celebration of triathlon, bringing together athletes from Elite, Para, Under 23, and Age Group categories.”
