Find your Unstoppable: Don’t overthink it, get involved

Glen Sturesteps journey into triathlon is unique to most.

Working as a Hydrographer (water scientist), Glen needed to obtain a bronze medallion for his fieldwork.

However, unable to swim more than 50 metres, Glen taught himself how to swim, which eventually led him to find triathlons.

“Now I’ve been involved in triathlon for 11 years,” Sturesteps said.

“I have also worked hard to become one of the few Level 2 Technical Officials and Coaches involved in triathlon.”

Now when Glen looks back on his time in triathlon so far, his favourite memories include competing at the World Championships and the Sri Chinmoy Triple Tri, as well as reflecting fondly on his starting days in triathlon.

“My favourite race would have to be the Husky Sprint,” he said.

“The event just has an electric atmosphere, and I’ve been competing in the Husky Sprint for 10 years in a row now.”

A part of the Canberra Bilbys Triathlon Club, Glen’s favourite thing about the club is its novice program and ability to be involved in such a great community.

With 11 years of triathlon experience behind him, Glen encourages anyone looking to get involved in the sport to just get started.

“When I first started my triathlon journey I wished someone had told me about the importance and benefits of proper strength training for endurance training,” Sturesteps said.

Don’t overthink it, just get started.

“People are kinder and more supportive than you know, and they want to see you succeed, regardless of your starting point.”
