A sunny day in Moreton Bay saw Queensland crown their 2024 Club Champions after an action-packed day of racing in the state’s south-east.
Hosted by the Phoenix Queensland Triathlon Series Round 2 Moreton Bay on Sunday 6 October, the annual event welcomed clubs from across the state, with athletes leaving nothing on the course in their quest for the podium.
In the Medium Club category, Carina Leagues Triathlon Club were awarded the overall trophy, while SSG Multisport Inc finished second and Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy earned the Bronze.
President of Carina Leagues Triathlon Club, Leanne McGregor says the club was thrilled to be awarded the top spot.
“We went into Club Championships with the goal to have as many of our members race as possible,” said McGregor.
“After coming second last year there was fire in our belly to come out on top.
“While we had some of our members on the podium we also had a lot of new people racing, getting out there and giving it a go, which was great to see on a day with such perfect conditions!”
McGregor says the results are a testament to both volunteers from their club and the volunteers who assisted on Sunday.
“We’re a community based triathlon club with amazing coaches and a broad range of age groups, and being a medium sized club, we depend a lot on volunteers to help out,” she said.
“We will be putting the prize money towards making our juniors experience at States in Hervey Bay, the best.
“Volunteers are the heart and soul of our sport. A big thank you to tech officials for being there to keep us safe.”
Be-Energetic Tri and Run Club were named as Small Club Champions, with Sunshine coast-based Race Pace Coaching finishing in second and Somerset Spartan Triathlon Club claiming third.
Team T-Rex Triathlon won in the Large Club category, followed by Red Dog Triathlon Training and Bayside Multisport in second and third respectively.
Not to be outdone by their open athletes, the Juniors from Team T Rex Triathlon, Be-Energetic Tri and Run Club and Race Pace Coaching also finished first, second and third in the Junior Club category.
